Great Board Members Wanted
HELP the Healthy Start Coalition of Hardee, Highlands and Polk Counties … We’re looking for a few talented and conscientious volunteer board members to lead and strengthen the Coalition’s mission to promote and support healthy pregnancies, babies, and families by providing a maternal and child health system of care through community partnerships.
If you can contribute your time, thoughtfulness, and leadership a few hours a day, every other month, and are interested in exploring this opportunity, call Charlene Edwards, Executive Director at 863-534-9224 to find out whether this volunteer opportunity is right for you. We’re especially looking for folks with maternal and child health backgrounds, with accounting experience, from local and county governments, private sector businesses and individuals who have participated in the Healthy Start experience.
A board member chairs each of the committees listed below. Members of each committee may come from the general Coalition membership.
Roles and Responsibilities of Board Committees
Bylaws- The role of the bylaws committee is to review and propose changes as needed; review proposed changes with Board of Directors; provide copy of proposed changes to Coalition staff for mailing to general membership prior to voting; and present bylaws changes at Coalition meeting to assist members prior to final membership vote. This committee meets as needed.
Personnel- The role of this committee is to develop, and annually review, the Coalition’s personnel policies and procedures. Also acts as an arbitration committee for personnel problems as requested by the Healthy Start Coalition Board President. This committee meets annually or as needed.
Finance & Budget- The role of the Finance & Budget committee is to oversee the financial operations of the Coalition. The committee is responsible to ensure that accounting practices and/or procedures meet generally accepted audit standards and are in compliance with the Coalition’s financial procedures and all contractual requirements. Coalition Board Treasurer serves as committee Chair. This committee meets at least one week prior to each board meeting.
Membership- The role of the Membership Committee is to ensure that the General Coalition voting membership is a true representation of the community at large and meets the requirements in legislation. To accomplish this task, the committee is responsible to review the general voting membership list on an annual basis and present findings and make recommendations to the Board. This committee meets annually or more often if needed.
Nominating- The role of the Nominating Committee is to present a slate of Board nominees to the Coalition membership at the annual meeting; conduct an election, count votes, and announce election results. This committee meets at least annually, more often if necessary.
