Fetal Infant
Mortality Review
Since Healthy Start began in 1991, Florida's infant mortality rate has decreased almost 25%.
Evaluation of the Healthy Start program shows it reduces the number of low birthweight babies.

The Healthy Start Coalition facilitates the Fetal and Infant Mortality Review (F.I.M.R.) which examines significant social, economic, cultural, safety and health system issues associated with fetal and infant mortality in Polk, Highlands and Hardee Counties. This process brings together members of the community from the tri-county area to review individual cases in order to identify factors associated with those deaths. These members include Healthy Start employees, health care professionals, agency representatives and concerned citizens from the community.

The case review teams (CRT) meet throughout the year to review and discuss these cases. The teams determine if a death represents a system problem that requires change. If so, recommendations for action are made to the Community Action Group (CAG) for consideration.
