 The Healthy Start Coalition of Hardee, Highlands, and Polk, Inc. is a non-profit corporation established in 1992 to serve as an advocate for improved maternal and child health services for all residents in Hardee, Highlands, and Polk counties.

  Healthy Start was enacted by the Florida State Legislature with the goal of reducing infant mortality, the number of low birth-weight babies, and improving health and developmental outcomes for all children. Healthy Start Coalitions across the state are charged with developing and implementing quality systems of care by funding maternal and child health programs in the community.

 The Healthy Start Coalition of Hardee, Highlands, and Polk Counties, Inc. is made up of approximately 500 members representing public and private providers of maternal and infant health, child advocates, consumers, employees of state and local government, school board representatives, hospital administrators, county public health unit directors and others.
